Home business owners suffer from the confusion between Networking and Prospecting. It's a common dilemma and quite easily remedied.
Beginner marketers have only one thing in mind, Networkers are constantly seeking to meet as many people in their neighborhood, the home business industry. Your goal is to meet as many people as possible in your space, your niche.
It could be health and wellness or vacation packages. It doesn't matter. What does matter is to be in the places where there are as many people that share your common interest.
When you find these places, and you will find many, get to know as many people as possible.
When you do this day in and day out, you start to create a massive network. It's also important to understand that not everyone you meet is going to be a prospect.
The catch is everyone you know and meet knows someone that is. Did you get that?
So the goal is to just meet people, network.
The lost art of being sociable.
Networking is just a fancy word for being sociable. Meet people, get to know them. Remember, you are not prospecting, You are not trying to recruit or “get” people. Networkers just meet people. The prospecting will happen naturally over time.
Make it a goal to meet everyone in your space, even your competitors. You will learn from them and they in turn will learn from you. Soon you will see that as the relationship is established the topic of business and referrals will just rise to the surface.
