Have you had thoughts about losing your old self? Why would you? A multitude of reasons if you are not seeing your life the way you ‘d like.
In the morning when we wake up, most people in our modern world go immediately to their mobile device to check email, FB, Instagram… The emotions that are created when we do this set the tone for the rest of the day. Mornings are our most sacred time. we should treasure that time and guard it against all outside distraction, what I call external chatter, noise.
Ideally, when we awaken, we want to fill our mind and thoughts with all the goodness that we are surrounded with and give thanks. Gratitude for waking up, being alive and not having to consciously be aware of having to breathe or deliberately making our heart pump and our organs and cells do their beautiful. They do all these things without any conscious effort on our part. All we have to do is provide proper nutrition and water. Isn’t that amazing?
Most of us also tend to think of events that happened the day before or sometime in the past.
The brain is a fascinating machine. It has the ability to create emotion based on what we are thinking. There what we think about brings about emotion and that sets the tone for the day and subsequently our actions. We are conditioned and we have the power and the ability to recondition ourselves.
The more and the longer that we continue to think about past events, the more that we continue to live in the past. If we are continually re-living in the past, then we cannot live in the future. We are stuck. Every day is just like the day before.
Our bodies have become used to living in the past. It’s the known and the familiar. We are addicted to our past emotions and conditions even when they make us feel miserable. It’s a bad habit just like any other bad habit. It’s a state of being that serves no purpose and is actually more harmful than good.
If we do not decide to change, we are headed only to death with a lot of regrets.
Once you are able to comprehend this, you can then begin to create change. It’s very similar to learning that eating a donut every morning with an oversized sweetened beverage at the corner store is not only going to change your shape and weight, it’s going to make a huge dent in your budget. It adds up. It's the compound effect. These things don’t happen overnight. They happen gradually and so when we decide to make a change, the same thing occurs. it takes time and a conscious effort.
Become aware of your daily actions. Are your actions and daily habits in alignment with the desired future you are looking to create? If not, maybe it's time to begin losing your old self and allow the new you to shine through.
It starts now, today.
